When a barcode comes up empty the app offers the nutrition label scanner instead, which reads the printed panel and works for any product anywhere. That one is an AI analysis, so it costs a credit.

Correct the amount on the ingredient — that is the field the whole estimate scales from, and it is one tap. It is in grams, or in a volume unit where the food offers one. Reading a meal from a photograph is an estimate and the app does not claim a measured accuracy for it.

No. It is queued, not refused, and it survives closing or force-quitting the app. It sends by itself when you are back online, dated to when you took it. Nothing is charged until an analysis actually runs, and nothing at all if you discard it.

Because the goal is not safe for the details entered — losing weight while underweight, gaining at a BMI of 25 or over, or a target that would sit below the app’s own floor of 1,200 kcal (1,500 for men). The screen says which. When only the usual 500 kcal deficit is too big, it offers the floor with a smaller deficit instead, as long as that deficit is at least 300 kcal a day — the smallest US guidance names. It also declines for anyone under 18, since the equation it uses was derived from adults.

The app itself, the food databases, the barcode scanner, manual entry, every chart and every PDF report are free and always will be. Whatever a scan costs is shown on the shutter before you press it.

They don’t. You buy them when you want them and they sit there until you use them. Put the app down for three months and it costs you nothing.
